NAYAUG CANOE AND KAYAK RACE CELEBRATES 25TH ANNIVERSARY, OCTOBER 6
September 7, 2013 - - The 25th Annual Nayaug Canoe and Kayak race will take place on Sunday, October 6 at the Kinne Farm on Pease Lane, off Tryon Street in South Glastonbury on the banks of the Connecticut River. This year’s race marks a quarter century for the Land Heritage Coalition’s signature event.
Bring your canoe or kayak and the family for a casual paddle on the Connecticut River in the Nayaug Family Fun Paddle, which begins at noon. Aimed at new paddlers and families, the Fun Paddle will be escorted by members of the New England Canoe and Kayak Association, and proceeds will benefit the Brain Injury Alliance of Connecticut. Fun Paddle participants should bring their own boat, and they all will get a 25th Anniversary award. A limited number of canoes will be available, first come, first served. All racers must wear a personal floatation device.
The day’s events start at 9 a.m. with a pancake breakfast served by Fire Company #1. Race registration starts at 9:30 a.m., and the 5 and 8-mile races start at 11 a.m. Registration fees are $15 for persons age 16 and older and $5 for those under 16. Admission and parking are free.
